The fenestration industry is full of surprises and our very own Marketing and Project Manager Amy Jansen is most definitely one of them! At the recent FIT Show Gala Dinner, Amy wowed guests with her rendition of “Vissi d’arte” from Giacamo Puccini’s Tosca which left the audience delighted by her stunning performance.
A classically trained, professional opera singer, Amy, who by day looks after all of the marketing and project related work for the fast-growing Midlands based fabricators Central RPL and ASL, is currently a member of Birmingham Opera Company and sings regularly as part of their community outreach workshops working with refugees, youth at risk, homeless and women’s shelters.
As soon as FIT Show organisers knew of Amy’s talent, they invited her to sing at the Gala Dinner, as Amy explains: “Gary and I were in a planning meeting with Nickie West for the show and it came up that I am a singer, and once Nickie found that out it just went from there! It comes as a surprise to most people as it’s obviously completely different from what I do at Central, but it’s actually how I got my job! I started looking for work in July of last year and despite sending out dozens of CVs each day and working with agencies and I was having simply no luck. By September it occurred to me that I needed to change how I was going about finding work so I set myself up under the departure boards at Birmingham’s New Street Station during the 7:30-8:00am – to catch as many work commuters as possible – and sang next a banner with all my information on. Within 5 minutes of finishing I had an email from someone called Gary Morton who’d seen me on Twitter while he was in Portugal and the next week I was offered a role reorganising the Service Calls systems, and from there my background in project management and marketing was put to use and the role of Marketing and Projects Manager was created for me.
“It’s the first time Central have exhibited at the FIT Show and we had a great show. We were there showcasing ‘Everything Central’ which was well received by visitors – and singing at the dinner gave us a further opportunity to show that’s there’s a lot more to Central than you might think!”
